- Seven Disciplines of WMU Entered the Top 1% of ESI Global Rankings
According to the latest data of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database in November 2019, the discipline of Neuroscience & Behavior of Wenzhou Medical University (WMU) has entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings for the first time. In addition, another six disciplines of WMU, including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Biology & Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Chemistry, and Material Sciences, also rank the top 1% of ESI global rankings. Among them, Clinical Medicine makes the top 1.875 ‰, and Pharmacology & Toxicology reaches the top 3.914‰. Up to now, a total of seven disciplines of WMU have entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings. The number of disciplines on the list of the top 1% of ESI global rankings is in a tie for 41st at home, and tied for second with Capital Medical University among Chinese medical universities co-constructed by the provincial government, National Health Commission and Ministry of Education. WMU ranks 1168th among the 6214 listed institutions in the world, creating a new record high. It continues to rank 74th among mainland universities, and has ranked first for ten consecutive issues (The data of ESI is updated every two months) among provincial universities in Zhejiang Province.

Clinical Medicine ranks 826th among the 4406 shortlisted institutions, entering the top 1.875‰ of ESI global rankings. Pharmacology & Toxicology ranks 353rd among the 902 shortlisted institutions, climbing 11 places from the previous issue and entering the top 3.914‰ of ESI global rankings. Biology & Biochemistry ranks 791st among the 1065 shortlisted institutions, 10 places up from the previous issue. Molecular Biology & Genetics ranks 731st among the 808 listed institutions, 10 places up from the previous issue. Chemistry ranks 1213rd among the 1274 shortlisted institutions, 3 places up from the previous issue. Material Sciences ranks 811st among the 898 shortlisted institutions.
According to the ESI data of this issue, WMU has 12,020 papers of all disciplines which were cited 113,839 times, 9.47 citations per paper on average. Among them, 47 papers were selected as highly cited papers of ESI.
